Football Club Sochaux-Montbeliard was founded in 1928 under the name Football Club Sochaux by Jean-Pierre Peugeot, head of Peugeot, a French car manufacturing company. Peugeot has sought to create a football club for recreation workers of the company. He installed Louis Maillard-Salin as the first president of the club, and is the first club manager Maurice Bailly. Bailly was also a member of the team. Sochaux played its first game Sept. 2, 1928 against the reserve team of local club Montbeliard. The club was inserted into the lowest level of the football league of Franche-Comté region and played his match Premier League three weeks later to win 12-1.
